Lana (Griebenow) Hespen


Lana M. Hespen, 71 of Syracuse, NE passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at the Syracuse Hospital. She was born on June 13, 1950, to Richard & Esther (Paulson) Griebenow in Clermont, IA. In 1968 she graduated from Valley High School in Clermont.  Lana went to cosmetology school and worked for some years in that line of work.

Lana married Rodney Hespen on May 25, 1991, in Syracuse. She worked at Nashua Paper Products in Omaha for 36 years.

Lana liked to travel and got to visit her nephew, Christian, and his family in Norway.  Her first birthday was celebrated in Los Angeles, California while the family was visited her aunt and uncle there.  Her favorite trips when she was younger were to visit her aunt and uncle in Yakima, WA and their son Billy.

Although Lana and Rod had no children of their own, she loved every kid she ever met, especially William, Richard, Noah, Colby, Max, and Grant.  She enjoyed crocheting for new babies and newlyweds.  She was also very fond of the dogs she has had, even those of others.  Making treats for her dogs was a favorite way to spoil them.

She is survived by her Husband: Rodney Hespen; Brother: Dennis (Rose) Griebenow; Nephew: Christian (Siv) Griebenow; Great Nephews: William & Richard Griebenow; Brother-in-law & Sister-in-law: Jerry (Judy) Hespen; Nephew-in-law: Ed (Joanna) Zastera; Nieces-in-law: Chelsea (Tony) Schommer, Ashley Hespen & Val Lopez; Great Nephews-in-law & Nieces-in-law: Paige (Dillon) Niedermeyer, Ethan & Jackson Zastera, Sophia, Olivia & Stella Schommer; Special Friends: Elaine Elagoz, Joyce Marlow, Greg & Wendy Larson, Noah & Jodi Larson, Colby & Haley Larson; also many coworkers and friends.

She was preceded in death by her Parents: Richard & Esther Griebenow; Brother: Paul Louis Griebenow; Parents-in-law: John & Lois Hespen; Brother-in-law: Roger Hespen.

Memorial Services were held on Wednesday, September 1 at 5:00 P.M. with a visitation from 1-5 P.M. all at the funeral home in Syracuse.  Weather permitting a celebration of life for Lana will be held in the garden at the home of Wendy and Greg Larson in Clermont, IA at 309 Iowa Street (Carryville) on September 11, 2021, at 5:30 PM.  If the weather doesn’t permit it will be in the City Park across the street from her childhood home.
