Gene Richard Olson, 75, of Camanche, Iowa passed away, Saturday, July 3, 2021, at Big Meadows Nursing Home Savanna, Illinois, after a long fight with Parkinson's. 

A Celebration of Gene's life was held Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Camanche where he was a member. A Private Burial was held at Rose Hill Cemetery. The Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory assisted in the burial.

Gene’s Sisters Grace Swenson and Carolyn Smith were presented with the American flag from the American Legion to fly in memory of Gene.

Gene Richard Olson was born to Richard and Evelyn (Dugstad) Olson in Clermont, IA on April 7, 1946. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. In 1964 he graduated from Valley High School, Elgin. Following high school, he joined the coast guard in Duluth, MN and Bayfield, WI from 1964 to 1968. 

Gene married Judy Shirley and later divorced. 

Gene married Janice Garcia on May 12, 1984 in Camanche. Jan passed away August 30, 2019.

Gen enjoyed spending time with family, boating, watching the Minnesota Vikings, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Nascar. 

He collected John Deere memorabilia since his father started the John Deere dealership in Clermont. 

Gene is survived by his sons John (Marcy) Olson of Maquoketa, Iowa, Daniel (Tammy) Olson of Maquoketa, Michael Olson of Davenport, Iowa; two step-daughters Patricia (Ed) Stearns of Camanche, Julie (Rodney) Arends of O'Fallon, Missouri; two step-sons Michael (Shawnda) Garcia of Holland, Michigan, Mitchell (Lakeisha) Garcia of McKinney, Texas; 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, and 16 step-great-grandchildren; and his two sisters and three brother-in-laws: Grace (Laverne) Swenson of Clermont, Carolyn (Dave) Smith of Postville and Veldon Orth, Rochester, MN. 

He was preceded death by his parents, his wife, and one sister Mary Orth.
