 David M. Broughton, 67, of Battle Mountain, Nevada, formerly of West Union, Iowa, died unexpectedly at his home on February 22, 2021.

 David was born March 5, 1953, the son of M. W. “Bill” and Virginia (Madson) Broughton in West Union, Iowa.

 He attended North Fayette High School, graduating in 1971. Following graduation, he moved to Battle Mountain, Nevada, where he worked for the Bureau of Land Management, an auto parts business and in the mining industry as an equipment operator before his employment at Sierra Pacific Power Company. He retired in 2001.

 David married Elizabeth Lynn Murphy on May 29, 1982 and was blessed with one daughter, Michelle. They later divorced.

 After retiring, Dave enjoyed working on cars and spending time at the racetrack. He also enjoyed mushrooming, fishing, and going on “safari” with friends. Everyone in Battle Mountain knew and loved Dave and his canine companions: Bingo 1, 2, 3, and 4.

 Dave is survived by his daughter, Michelle Lynn (Broughton) Light, son-in-law, Joshua Ryan Light, and his two grandsons, Garrett and Jace, who were his pride and joy, all of Salado, Texas. He is also survived by one brother, Charles (Charlotte) Broughton of Calmar, IA; nieces and nephews: Andrea Seegmiller of Dysart, IA; Erin (Alan) Williams of Beaver Dam, WI; Boyd Broughton of Boise, ID; Renee (Matt) Bush of Lander, WY; Brett (Heather) Broughton of Rowley, IA; Aunt Virginia Pratt of Waterloo, IA; several great nieces and nephews and his Keeshond Bingo #4 of Battle Mountain.

 Dave was preceded in death by his parents, M. W. “Bill” (Oct. 31, 1999) and Virginia Broughton (Jan. 21, 2003), brother Don Broughton (August 14, 2010), sister-in-law Georgia Broughton (Sept. 13, 1998) and Bingo #1, #2, and #3.

  A celebration of Dave’s life will be held June 5, 2021, at the Presbyterian Church in West Union, IA, commencing at 12:30 p.m.

 Dave’s final resting place will be in the Wadena Cemetery in Wadena, Iowa.
