Sylvia Victoria Loftsgard, 88, of Postville, Iowa died Monday, February 17, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society in Postville, Iowa.  Sylvia was born July 12, 1931 to Victor and Jennie (Wolfs) Guyer at home in rural West Union. She taught at Riverside, rural Clermont for a year.

Sylvia was united in marriage with Orven Loftsgard on June 7, 1951 at West Clermont Lutheran Church. Five children were born to this union. Together with her husband, Sylvia helped on the farm and raised the children. Her faith was very important to her. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, baking, playing piano and accordion. Sylvia was a great cook and loved to teach the grandchildren to sing. She was active in Gideons.

Surviving Sylvia include her five children, Jane (Craig) Rood of Elgin, Iowa, Bradley Loftsgard of Decorah, Iowa, Lisa (Dwight) Bacon of Decorah, Iowa, Mary (Steve) Follett of Mayer, Minnesota and Sara (Shane) Bell of Hiawatha, Iowa; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; five siblings, Gerald (Vada) Guyer of Postville, Iowa, Lucille Severson of Clermont, Iowa, Marilyn Knutsen of Clermont, Iowa, Arnold (Deb) Guyer of Clermont, Iowa and Ernest (Monica) Guyer of Texas; sister-in-law, Sally Guyer of Elgin, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Orven on December 28, 1978; her parents, Victor and Jennie Guyer; son-in-law, Joe Lechtenberg; brother, Leslie Guyer; brothers-in-law, Eldon Severson, Walter Knutsen and Keith (Jenetta) Brainard; and one niece, Rhonda Brainard Radloff.

Visitation was held from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder, Iowa.

Funeral service was held  at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder, Iowa with Rev. Marshall Hahn as the officiant.

Burial followed at Marion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Gunder, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Marion Lutheran Church or West Clermont Lutheran Church.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa is helping the family with arrangements.
